The Band's Review:
Alright, following your little whinge CSD, I'll review this one.
However, I gotta say (as is often the case) that due to various sound issues, it was a tricky gig from a musical point-of-view. Especially as it was also like playing on top of a bar stool, so small and unstable was the stage. I for one spent most of my time trying just to stay of my feet, and not because of my much-discussed (or is that 'much-disgust') and now infamous 'leaning back' bass-playing technique!
Regardless of all this though, I actually think the show went well. As I said, I couldn't really hear neither individual performances, nor get a good idea of what we sounded like 'ensemble', Yeah, there might have been a coupla stink-ups here and there. Plus my fingers actually started to bleed when playing one of the newies, "Plan B", which hampered my style somewhat. But "...Blessings" rocked (as per), as did another newie that was yesterday rechristened "New 666". But more importantly, I took a coupla moments when I was up there to just look accross at the guys and observe what was going on while we were playing and you know what? I actually think that we're really hitting our stride now. I know that in saying that I've probably jinxed all our future gigs, but fuck it; It damn well excited me to be on that stage yesterday, with those boys, playing those songs, under that sun, by that dirty swamp-river (ah, I cannot withhold the romanticist in me from barking at the gates of joy).
Maybe it was the fresh air, maybe it was the early hour or maybe we're just that damn good but I think we're now really starting to play with confidence and style. It guess it helped that the sound man was playing Bob Marley and The Wailers right before we went on. In fact, that's probably the only thing he did right.
"Get Up Stand Up" indeed!
